Ramen rocks.

One of my friends made me some badass pho last week and all he used was a paste out of a jar. Added fresh cilantro and sprouts to resulting broth; topped with squeeze of lime, some hoisin sauce and sambal olek and it was comparable to $10 pho. The rice noodles cost pennies.

That would be the pho that costs $2.50 more than the $7.50 pho. ;)

Doesn't surprise me. I'd like to try this method sometime.

Maybe brand specific goodness?  I looked on amazon for that particular model and
was not finding it.....hmmmm.    Sure would take a LOT of the work out of the
genuine method.....mashing bones at 160* for as long as you can stand it.....
Thanks Euge for the tip.  Our little Pho cafe is looking for an exit as he says
he could use more income....but his kid is in the school so...here he stays for now.

Adding the fresh ingredients and the sambal olek really makes the difference IMO. Luckily there are a plethora of Asian markets to choose from in the area. I've just been trying different brands and have concluded they all need a little doctoring up for optimal experience.

;D  I've never seen it that expensive, I pay $6.95 for the large.  $10 is crazy talk!

I want pho now.

Mekong in Richmond has one called the Superbowl. It's like $10 and would be enough Pho for three. I eat the normal size for $6.50. ;)

We keep getting the Pho Bo I mentioned earlier in the thread. We get them locally for much less than Amazon has them. I seem to recall it being about $9 for 6.
