I've been drinking Wild Turkey Rye 101 recently. It's quite tasty and less than 25 beans.

Picked up a bottle of Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Rye. I've only hit it a few times, but it drinks bigger than 90 proof. I keep wanting to not like it, but I do. Its 25 beans normal price, but was on sale back in March for $22.

im not a conn-oy-sir, but yes. you can not go wrong with wild turkey, especially considering the price.

i should get the bird next time i buy whiskey.

i bought some beefeater gin yesterday. yuck. now i remember why i disliked it despite its cheap pricepoint.

This ain't plain old WT, this is Wild Turkey Rye 101. (Rye)

As far as gin try out these before you give up:
Roku
Hendrick's
Conniption Navy Strength (might be a little difficult to find outside NC)
PS: Cheap gin kinda sux

Beefeater is cheap gin but not the worst. Typical house gin at open bar events when there were events. But I try to avoid it.

Got my first bottle of WT101 on Friday. Out in the woods. No cubes when I got it so dipped it neat. No complaints but I was reminded later in the evening of the proof.

Ooh, Roku sounds really good (Yuzu, Sansho pepper, tea, cherry blossom). That one's going on the list.

I could never get into Hendrick's because I'm not a fan of cucumber in drinks. Sapphire is my go-to, but Tanq makes a great G&T.

I found a pretty cool chart for brands of gin versus botanicals here: https://cwginjoint.com/the-gin-matrix/

Pretty cool, although I question having Sapphire so far away from the citrus area given its prominent lemon peel aroma.

+1, we always have a bottle of sapphire on hand for drinks, so smooth and plays well with others, and also yes to tangueray and tonics.

yup. that is excellent. wasnt going to reply until i saw that, but my go-to gin was gordons. again. mid-price tier but i dont want lavender-cucumber-rose blossoms whatever like hendricks (which i also find has a poor quality distillate)

i just want juniper flavoured alcohol with a background of traditional gin spices and herbs. i want to get genever some time.

Great chart.

I like Uncle Vals botanical, Roku is great (esp at $21). Roku has some seasonal varietals if you're ever in Japan, I had a really nice sakura gin from them.

Has anyone tried any of the NA whiskey offerings? I just picked up Ritual NA whiskey and Seedlip NA gin.

roku is $49 in canada. at least $20 is pure tax, maybe even 30. if i was a liquior drinker i would start distilling here. its BS

Is that for all liquor or just imports? It would seem strange if Crown Royal is more expensive in Canada than the US.

i would wager that it is. im talking about ontario at least, each province has diff alcohol laws. but as ive said before, the insane prices are one of the reasons i started to and continue to homebrew.

https://www.marketviewliquor.com/product/crown-royal-canadian-whisky-750-ml vs https://www.lcbo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/lcbo/crown-royal-whisky-1487

slight difference. with other products the difference is much higher.

https://www.lcbo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/lcbo/gordons-dry-gin-%28pet%29-111021 vs https://www.marketviewliquor.com/product/spirit/gordons-gin-175-ltr (both are 1.75litre bottles)

part of this is to discourage alcoholism, having a set kind of price for "a standard unit of alcohol". but really it just encourages addicts and homeless to do hard drugs that are cheaper than liquor, and punishes everyone. where does all this tax money go? i don't know.
