Glad it was an easy fix Denny

Not fixed yet!  As soon as the freezing rain we're getting ends, I'm heading into town to look for parts.  Maybe I can brew next week.

Freezing rain? Double yuk.
Our forecast is 40/30 and partial sun for the next several days. Just lucky I guess

We had planned to brew some more of our Amber Saturday.  But were down at the bar that sells our beer, and half the crowd there was asking for more of our Woody Warmer.  So, I'm headed down to the LHBS shop for some Carafa II.......

Done for the year after a double batch two weeks ago.

Starting to plan the first 2014 brew though.

I have a great hardware store blocks from my house.  I still have to schedule time to get there.  It's unbelievable.

We have a locally owned home improvement store (think Home Depot, but locally owned with great selection and friendly, knowledgeable sales people) that's on the edge of town closest to me.  So, it's only a 25 min. drive!

The place by me is the same deal, though I'm not sure how local the owners are anymore.  They may have left for the suburbs.

They have EVERYTHING, though.

Did a double 5-gallon batch yesterday with my brewing buddy to create 1.051 70 schilling and 1.037 60 schilling ales.  Started this malty combo by topping out my poor 8-gallon mash tun with 15+ pounds of grain to produce an 8.5-gallon batch that was appropriately split and watered down to hit the final target gravities.  I'm looking forward to these smaller malty ales as a good palette rest after my last over-the-top IPA.  With three fermenters now bubbling, this was certainly the last batch of the year!

My local hardware store burned down a few years ago.  It was one of those places that had a cat on the front counter and brass parts in stock for my 1956 era toilets, plus the cheapest propane refills in town.  They also had a leather/tool maker attached that made holsters for all the cops in the area.  It was sad to see it go.

I made ten gallons of a light-colored smoked Festbier yesterday using the malt I cold-smoked last weekend.  Nine pounds of munich malt, 7 pounds of alder-smoked 2-row pale malt and 4 pounds of 2-row smoked over citrus chips.

Well just starting to recover from my trip to my local ace hardware which i must say has everything you need as far as brass and piping to knowledge in one spot nicely organized with common sense.Bit more costly but my first disappointment from the big box stores bouncing isle to isle this over there that over here and all in all poor quality brass and not everything i needed. So i put everything back and went to Ace returned home with all my components to finalize my all grain set up finally. all going well actually very well looking good to try my first all grain before the new year then my luck came into play and i ran a drill bit 3 inches into my left hand f.... S... so here i am getting more education and typing with one hand awesome. Glad you guys are here with this wealth of knowledge passes the time quite nice. thanks to all and merry christmas. Special note auto-center punch the round stock and clamp in vise to drill dont be stoopid lol we will try again to finish in a week or so hopefully.

Ouch.  I learned not to brace against the board your drilling through in a similar fashion.  Sistering rafters together and ran the drill straight through in to the heel of my hand.  No major damage, but my kids learned some new words.

Good luck on a quick recovery.
