Last night I was coolshipping some lambic outside and it was 26F out with some fierce wind. The wort was freezing in about 30 minutes even though it had just been nearly 200F.

Was reading about the Greenbay game yesterday, tailgaters were hovering their beers over a fire so they wouldn't freeze!

This polar surge is brutal!

I would think  cool shipping at 26 kind of defeats the purpose no? I mean in terms of introducing organisms. I suppose it's an economical way to chill if you've got the weather on your side.

At minus 17 and dropping, weather is NOT on your side.

I may skip lunch so I don't have to go out.

I am trying to skip anything that involves going outside, this is just crazy!

Schools have been canceled already for tomorrow as well as today, sump pump pipe froze. Garbage pick up canceled, what a Monday!

Just went out and dug my car out.  Good Lord. Don't know whether to drink this coffee or pour it over me.

As long as I don't have to shovel again, I'm OK with it.  By now, the plows have probably buried my nice clean spot.

If my plate sticker ever shows up I'm going to have to take the plate off my car and bring it in the house to get the new sticker on it.

I was thinking earlier that today could be a fun day to take the kids out and spray some water in the air to watch it crystallize.  But it's too damn cold to bother them with that.

Thankfully before this weather gets to New England, it won't be as cold as this past weekend.

And this is why we stockpile beer! :)

Stay warm and safe you guys!!

You should at least take a bucket of water out and throw it in the air to see if it freezes immediately or turns to snow.

Did an inventory last night.  Two empty kegs out of a dozen.  15 gallons ready to be kegged.

I'm set for the next couple of snow days.

we've done that with the kids but with hot water, once it flies you can hear it pop and crack as it crystallizes, it's pretty cool(no pun intended)

As for beer, I've got a lot so I'm in no hurry to brew again with this weather right now. I will be making my WY1007 starter tomorrow though to get ready for my Altbier coming up:)

Yeah...I forgot the hot water part.  I tried it on Friday night but it wasn't cold enough (only around 0 F ).

Those guys in International Falls, MN could probably watch it freeze into a block of ice in mid-air.

And this is why in 1979 I moved from Cincinnati to Tampa.  People were walking across the Ohio River fer cryin' out loud.
