Weizenbock and a BPA, wish me luck on both.  Its gunna be a chilly brewday, and I only say chilly because we have had a very mild start here in the Midwest.

It's a Maibock in the morning for me.  A bit bigger beer for a change.
Many of us would be on a strict liquid diet if it weren't for pretzels.

Brewing my Liquid Schwarz! recipe. Haven't brewed a schwarzbier in a while, looking forward to it.

If it warms up a little, a German Pils.

Dunkel - following Bryan's previous reference -

40% Munich I
40% Munich II
14%Pils
5%Caramunich
1%Carafa

145 for 30
158 for 30
168 for 10

can't recall what I set as the hop schedule, but its basically mittlefruh FWH and at 45, with a smidge of german magnum for a total of 20-22ibus.

Was planning on a cream ale, but it's going to be too damn cold.  It looks like I'll be painting instead.  :(

I assume that's supposed to be 80% Munich II? What's the color on that? I am planning my first dunkel in the next few batches and have been trying to find the excerpt Bryan shared for guidance. What I have is pretty similar to yours with the Munich only being 9L

yeah - I just fixed that - I accidentally deleted the first ingredient.

its 40% Munich I

I think the color works out to 14 - the very low end of the dunkel spectrum.  my previous dunkels have always been on the higher end, so we'll see what happens - i'll post a hydro sample for you to see if you want.

have been trying to find the excerpt Bryan shared for guidance.

here you go - from about 5 pages back:

Dunkel is on my list of beers to tackle.  I got my hands on a package of wlp838 to build up for a starter.  This has been the idea kicking around in my head:

50/50 Vienna/Munich base
1# Dark Munich
.25# Carafa II or Midnight Wheat

Hops - Kazbek (I need to try it, and its a kicked up saaz)

I don't think it needs any crystal malts, thoughts?

your recipe guidelines are as follows:

Number in () is the color of the malt used in EBC, next number is the %. You basically have 3 options. FYI Only festival beers( festbier and Oktoberfest) get Vienna

Thanks. I could remember where I saw it. What is the color of Munich I and II? Is it Weyermann? I use Schill which light is 6L and dark is 9L. The recipe I have works out to about 18 SRM with 5% caramunich III. I must have and ounce or two more of carafa in there...

no I am not - I just used the lovibond range (5.1-7.0)on the weyermann website, although that is for regular not Barke.  will adjust the color on my recipe, although I don't expect a large change on the final SRM.
