Just got it transferred to the fermenter -- did the batch sparge thing per usual, uneventful brew day. Hit my numbers and efficiencies pretty well, too. It's great when things work out!

Brewed another Pale Ale Friday. Hit exact SG readings at each step throughout the mash from the previous brew with the same grain bill. Feeling confident in my system’s consistency/repeatability.

Gotta feel great having the system shaken down.  Are you done with the single hop series?  Any insights from that?

I have one more that will feature Lemondrop hops (a late but long awaited add) after an on deck Pre-Prohibition Lager.

I have yet to taste the Citra, but up to this point the Amarillo has been my favorite, even as I enjoy the Centennial — which is very good. The Cascade was very good as well but my processes were unrefined and clunky with that beer. It deserves a do over. I may include it next year sometime Lord willing.

My goal was to confirm standardized Brewhouse processes while simultaneously discovering aroma and flavor of a single hop variety using a standard Pale Ale grist and Magnum bittering charge. This past brewday was as easy as falling off a log and I hit every number. I’m very satisfied I have accomplished the process half of the effort.

However, I believe I want to introduce another variable to the hop side of the effort.  The goal has now become: find hop combinations that create dynamic synergy vs the single aroma and flavor hop.

That’s why I deviated slightly with this Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra version. It will be on tap next to the Citra for comparison several weeks from now.

The tough part is figuring out simultaneous vs sequential hop additions.

It's interesting that you found Amarillo the most notable single hop.  My own experience -- counter to expectation -- when tried it on its own was that it was a bit of a wallflower, but I thought it could be a great element in a blend.  I might have to reevaluate it sometime.  Maybe I put it on the wrong stage.  Thanks for the report.

That’s an awesome label.

I just made a Centennial/Chinook APA (my first in the Picobrew). It’s only been in the keg 2 days but at least at this point I love the combination.
