Rob, do you move your IC around in the wort for faster cooling or just let it sit there.  I know that moving it around might have the potential to introduce some O2 into the wort as you chill it but I found when I used to employ this method that you get a kind of insulating layer or cooler wort around the coil and it reduces the speed and efficiency of cooling.  For that reason, I used to move it around in the wort to expose the coil to the hotter wort and improve the cooling efficiency.  May you have conquered this with using Ice water.  Obviously, I don't use an IC anymore since I have a plate chiller and a counter flow as a backup.  Just curious though.

I give the wort an occasional stir, so that it's always circulating a little bit, not just sitting in one place. You're right about building up an insulating layer, and I'm sure this effect is just as real no matter whether you run tap water ice water.  I used to stir a lot more.  Oxygen aside, I realized this minimal stirring was just as effective and much easier than either more stirring or actually moving the IC around.

plan on a dunkles weissbier. But, living in Florida, Dorian might have other plans for my weekend.

Brewing a Rye Pale Ale this weekend. Usually I use Amarillo, but I'm out and I'm trying to use up last years hops. So, it will be Citra and Columbus.

I want to brew a Pale Ale this weekend, also in Florida.  We'll see what happens.

Toward the end of last year I brewed a Burton ale.  I've really enjoyed it but unfortunately the keg is just about empty, so this weekend I'm brewing it again (with a couple small adjustments).  This is only my third time brewing this year so I'm really looking forward to it.

Glad to hear that Burton turned out so well!  Now I really have to get around to doing a version...

Just looked at my Cascade hops yesterday.  They are almost ready to pick and I must do that before the tent caterpillars (a.k.a. bagworms) eat all of the leaves and start on the cones (although it looks like they are pretty much leaving the cones alone).    Black IPA should be done in a few days so I will be making wet hopped IPA next week with the 1056 that I am going to harvest from it.

Finally got around to brewing that Gooseberry Wheat.  This was a real seat of the pants type recipe and brew session.  Numbers look reasonable, but with nothing to compare it to it did leave me wondering if I did anything right.  No matter, fun nonetheless.

I brewed 10 gallons of Dorian APA this morning.  There were a few squalls, but not so much as to interrupt a good brew day.

Looks like a very tasty beer!  How do like the Root Shoots?
