Bookcliff Homebrew Club Iron Brew. Secret ingredients this year are sweet potatoes and marshmallows! Fruita Hop Works hosts this event and we had an amazing turn out! I've got a bum back so I didn't feel up to dragging all my stuff out to brew on site which allowed me to hang out, share beer, and BS with folks. That's my doggo Bleu, Minnie roasting marshmallows with a MAP gas torch , brewing in the barn, marshmallows in the mash, and our esteemed president roasting mini marshmallows 3 at a time stuck on his thermometer probe with his propane burner and adding them to his boil. I Fn love this hobby

So I'm making Iron Taters Saison today. Made a sweet potato casserole...added some to the mash with the skins, will toss some in the boil with the rest of the marshmallows, and saved some casserole to add to the fermenter. Plan to ferment with my saison zoo of multiple saison & brett strains and miscellaneous dregs from some of my favorite breweries (Crooked Stave, Paradox, The Bruery, etc.) Again, I Fn love this hobby!

Kölsch with the new Lallemand Köln Kölsch yeast.

How do you like the new yeast?  I’ve not used it yet.

I am brewing ‘Yuletide’ today:

72% Golden Promise
21% Pale malt
4% Golden Naked Oats
3% Roasted barley

32 IBU(s) Pacific Jade @ 10 min.  (I’ll be looking for the lemon, orange, pepper, and herbs)

2x S-04

I still haven’t kegged this beer. I was going to keg today but my CO2 bottle was empty this morning.

Yuletide sounds good.

I kegged it today.

I know tasting a hydrometer sample is not a clear indication of the beer in the glass, but if it is any indication at all, this is going to be a great beer. The aroma is outstanding.

Right after I read the finish hydrometer I grabbed a clamp to hold the water hose in the fermenter, dropped it, and it bounced off everything in the brewery. ...including the hydrometer flask. **Crash** Humpty Dumpty couldn’t be put back together again.

I kegged this Kolsch tonight. The beer was clean with a slight white wine flavor. Reminded me of WLP029. I was hoping for closer to WY2565.

I tasted this beer tonight. It has already cleared after just 5 days in the keg. The taste is encouraging also. It actually doesn’t have the white wine taste of WLP029. It is more tropical fruit flavored. I am liking it.

I saved the slurry and am planning an Amber Ale with it next. I want to try a non-Kolsch to see how it does in that arena.
