SWMBO bought me some nice storage bins for grain. So I have 3 that hold about 30 pounds. One holds Vienna and one holds Munich. What base/specialty am I missing out on? Currently I have 60 lb bins for Washington pale, Golden Promise, and Washington pils. Small bins for crystal, red, carapils, and all my roasts.

I'm thinking that unless you guys have another grain similar to Vienna and Munich, I'll just use the last 30 pounder to keep some continental pils on hand.

Thoughts?

Dark Munich. Almost always have that.

That's a great choice, I think my Golden Promise is pretty similar

Those beers. I also use it a little in others.

Weyermann's has Mumich I that is 7L and the Munich II that is 10L. Munich I is what I would use in a MaiBock. For some reason, I have never made one. Maybe soon?

I've decided to add a German pils to the inventory, and dark Munich, victory, and brown. That ought to round out my store pretty good for now.

I've been toying with the idea of adding Best Malz Dark Munich to the bulk line up for a bit now. But then again, I'm kind of a German lager junkie right now.

With the prices on the avangard malts it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a sack.

What?  I like to be able to brew whatever I want, whenever I want. Is that so bad?

One of our LBHS owners was over a couple of months ago and he said I was giving him a run for his money! Funny thing is that I buy everything from him.

I have two giant bins and a couple Christmas storage bins. I buy sacks of base malts when I find sales. I get large industrial ziplock bags. I put a half sack in each and squeeze the air out. The zip locks go into the bins. One giant bin has two row in it. I've had as much as 200 lb in it. I have about 150 on hand now since I just stocked up. One large bin has MO and the other Munich. The other giant bin is for specialty malts. Within that bin, I have a half dozen 2 gallon buckets (picked up at local hot dog shoppe - once full of cheddar). I put my specialties in those based on similarities. Obviously they are all bagged individually. That's all stacked up in the basement. I have a handful of old cedar planks laying across the top to help absorb moisture.

I buy in bulk when I find sales. LHBS just had 25% off everything. I bought 100 lb Briess two row, 55 lb Avangard Munich, 20 lb white wheat, 10 lb roasted barley and 10 lb chocolate malt. I got all of this for about $165. Investing in quality storage pays off when you can buy in bulk.
