Rain finally
« on: February 28, 2014, 08:06:49 pm »
Finally got our first rain of the year today.  I took my 3 year old camping at lopez lake last weekend.  Down to 50% capacity and that's full compared to some of the others.

Down in Pasadena and I can't even tell you how happy I am that we got our rain today!

ETA - For everyone who's thinking that's weird - today's storm dropped more rain than we saw all last year.

I'm in Orange county.  Hopefully this is the start of a few good rains to come.

Ya'll are getting a taste of the drought we've been in for years. Terrible times. Let's hope your region gets the snow and rain it needs or I'm sure there will be trouble.

I'm glad you folks are finally getting some rain.  Too bad it seems to all come at once anymore.  Hopefully some of it soaks in and can be captured in reservoirs so you have some cushion.

We've had about 1/2" of precip here since our September floods, and there's no rain in the foreseeable future.  And because of the fall rain we got great wild grass growth, all that does is make our grassland fire season that much worse.

Glad to hear ya'll are getting the much needed rains, hopefully they'll continue, it's pretty devastating to read about. We, in the midwest would be more than happy to ship out any amount of snow you'd like! 70" so far this year with another 4-6 forecast for today and tomorrow..............so done with it!

Glad you are getting the water you need out there.

If it warms up here and we get rain, I fear flooding will be our issue. The snow banks at the end of the drive are about 6 ft high. Snowing again right now.

Sadly most of this water is flowing right down the flood channel that is the LA River. People always make fun of what the Army Corps of Engineers did with the river turning it into a big concrete ditch (think Grease or the motorcycle/big rig chase of Terminator 2). Yesterday showed why they thought it was necessary as the waters rose dangerously high yesterday and if the city had stayed built the way it was, people would have been killed and houses swept away.

Drew I think there were 2 or 3 people rescued from the LA River yesterday.  My office in Long Beach is right by the mouth.  Lots of flow yesterday
