I doubt it happens all that often given that there isn't really any monetary prize. I've heard of it happening but more like, pull the label off and black out the cap.

Someone who knows about O2 exposure would not pour from one bottle into another bottle.

Kind of hard to fix oxidation that way. It actually would be a great experiment to build yourself a little sample of what oxidation tastes like. Try it with a light lager like Coors. Buy two Coors light bottles, pour one into a sanitized bottle and recap. Do a side by side test in a couple weeks.

OP - No worries. As said, if you have qualms with using a recipe verbatim, make a change and make it your own. But I think the BEST thing to do is to make one of Jamil's recipes to the letter, take good notes, and then you can change it to your liking. And then you have your own recipe, refined to your tastes. And I bet Jamil would tell you that each of the recipes in that book started from a recipe he found and refined to his tastes. Good luck !

I've judged a lot over the last 15 years and I've never seen it happen.
