Wort chiller faucet adapter
« on: March 11, 2014, 05:05:57 PM »
Hi all,

I'm new to the AHA and was hoping some people could help me out.  I've brewed 3 batches of beer so far and they've turned out pretty well.  I use a wort chiller to cool it down, but recently I've had to replace the faucet due to a drip and now it doesn't have a threaded outlet.  Does anyone know of a slip-to-threaded adapter I can use instead?  If I hold the end of the wort chiller firmly onto the faucet the water will still pass through, but I would prefer something I could attach.  Any thoughts?

Check this link below. It might work.

Hmmm, do you have an outside spigot anywhere? Chill outside?

Thanks for the link, I'll have to look through it.  I live in an apartment, so I don't have many outlets; even the one in the bathroom sink is flat without threads.  It's tricky because I need the adapter to have a female slip to go over my faucet and a male thread for my wort chiller to screw on.

Post a picture of your faucet. Its hard to imagine one with no screen or aeration fitting at all.

Faucets from before the 70s probably don't have screens.

Looks like you have a threaded aerator in there.

Yep, that's what I was thinking originally. That aerator will come off with pliers, and a LHBS adaptor will thread right on.

I agree with the above. Those aerators are meant to be replaced once and a while. They're often only a couple bucks. Not all faucets have the type that is easy to replace, but looks like you've got one of the simpler types.

You guys nailed it.  The aerator comes right off and works with my adapter.  Thanks so much for the help!  I can go forth with my next batch (thinking of an American pale ale, if anyone knows of a good recipe...).
