On my last brew day my grain mill still acted up.  It would crush for a while, then just sit there and spin for a while.  It didn't do that when new.  I don't know what else to do.  I have adjusted the gap, and cleaned the rollers well.  It is a Cereal Killer mill if that matters.

So now I am thinking new grain mill.  What do you recommend?

I use a JSP adjustable.  I've had it for 15 years and run thousands of lb. of grain through it.  Lifetime guarantee, too.

I'm also a JSP fan. I've been using my adjustable JSP set at .039" for about 5 years with about 1500lbs of grain milled through it, and I'm still smiling.  :)

Saw that page and it notes that the prices are only good with a new mill. I like the idea of the gear drive, but would rather add it on later when I need another new toy. I will have to email Jack and ask.

Thanks Denny

I also have owned a JSP mill for many years with no problems.

That does look like a great mill!  Do any of you JSP owners have yours motorized?  That is how I will want to set it up.  Here is my current setup; I'd like to do something similar:

Mine is hooked up to a 12 volt treadmill motor.  I put a very big gear on it so it turns very slowly but never jams.
There's a picture of it here: https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=8109.msg101190#msg101190

I like that Jeff.  As long as I know it can be done, I'm good.  That looks like the one to get.

So Jim, when I save the shekels, my old one will migrate to Goldendale.  I like to go to the monastery up there occasionally anyway - so a good excuse.

+1  All grain mills need cleaning and maintenance.  Take it fulls apart and wipe all the goop and dust off and give it a good lubing with mineral oil(ive used keg lub).  IF you have a barley crusher there is acctually an oring that is supposed to connect the driven roller to the free roller. replacing that will fix your issues.

Heard back from jack at JSP. Gear drive can be added by the end user, but is only available on the standard adjustable, not the aa model which is adjustable on both ends of the rollers.

Denny, I know you have the model a, and are happy with it. So how does it work, slightly larger gap on one end?

It works perfectly.  If it didn't I would have switched a long time ago.  I get an average 83% efficiency and never had a stuck runoff.  He's said the only reason he makes the AA is becasue people asked for it, not because of any problems with the A.
