Yup, last time I forgot to spray out the shop vac I about hurled when I opened it. I am a paramedic that has smelled bodies in all states of decomposition. It ranks right up there with the worse.

Mine go straight in the garbage. I put to two trash bags in a 5gal buct, and fill 'er up. Then out to the trash.

Dump it on my garden. It makes great black soil.

I make bread, then throw away the other 95%. And feel bad about doing it... oh, for a backyard.

I have a buddy who has an organic farm.  He loves the spent grains for his compost.  Gives plenty of nitrogen,

I put them on the compost pile turn them under and let er rip...  The dogs find them a couple days later and it is granola poop city for the next few days.  Never been any issue. :o

Another garden dumper. Sometimes the squirrels and rabbits like them, sometimes not.

I like to dump them in the garden and then turn them in.

actually i haven't heard that grains are bad for dogs. hops on the other hand i have heard can make your dog sick. so keep them away if you use any mash hops.

that being said, mash hops will totally screw up your compost. the antibacterial qualities of the hops will literally make a stripe in your compost that won't decompose. i've never tossed the hop sludge from my kettle on there, but i assume they would do the same thing.

Good advice there. If you have the space, you could still spread it out and let the worms go to town.

I usually make a few loaves of bread and some crackers after I brew (recipe for the crackers up in the "Cooking with Beer" forum), and then compost the rest.

I compost my grains in one of those black boxes made for yard waste and kitchen scraps.  It all makes its way back to the garden.
