You need to be more specific, since New York is pretty big.  Even if you're talking NYC, there's a lot of geography.  In Manhatten, my favorite beer pub is the Blind Tiger in the West Village.  In Williamsburg I like Spuyten Duyvil and Torst, but they are a little expensive.  Where will you be and what do you like?

Thanks. Will travel anywhere to find a good beer bar, Torst, Spuyten Duyvil, Proleteriat and Blind Tiger all high on my list. I'm staying near Madison Square Garden, maybe some suggestions of somewhere roughly in that area (maybe within 20 blocks). I'll be a tourist so are there any rooftop bars that are good beer bars? And maybe great outdoor drinking venues?
Many Thanks
