Inside of igloo cooler is cracking
« on: May 16, 2014, 02:07:58 pm »
The cooler which I use for my mash tun has bubbled in a bit and is cracking on the inside. It is currently about 3 inches long and doesn't look like it has split completely yet. Is there any way to seal it?
On Tap/Bottled: IPL, Adjunct Vienna, Golden Stout, Honey Lager

My 10 gallon, round, Rubbermaid cooler did the same thing.  I never found a way to fix it but others may have a trick I don't know.

Where the heck are we going?  And what's with this hand basket?

Clear silicone caulk like what is used for fish tanks works ok.  You can pick up tubes in the caulk section at home depot.

Fixed my cooler 5 years ago when I pout a spigot in it... and drilled the hole a shade too big.

Is it food grade?

Fish are food. Mash Temps and PH should not cause anything to leach out. I just wouldn't boil or ferment with it.

Same thing I used to seal the valve on my cooler at the bulkhead.
