What was this bug?
« on: June 14, 2014, 07:11:09 pm »
Found this massive bug body outside my front door this morning. The bug is the thing on the right, my thumb is on the left.

Hard to tell what is bug and what is concrete.

Could be. Maybe from last year as they haven't risen yet this year.

Has it been stepped on? Cause it looks like a cicada head-wise but the body is indistinct.

Is a cicada that died halfway though molting into an adult. Probably an early riser.

Off the top of my head don't cicadas have something like a 30 year larval cycle? That could be one old-ass insect...

Totally see what you are saying. The green bit is the body of the adult and everything above that is the old shell.

There are whole colonies of 17 year cicadas that emerge all at once. Last year was parts of the north east. Next year, Texas. It's going to get loud.
