Has anyone had a problem with sending your beers with Overnight Shipping? I shipped my entries Overnight FedEx, I'm not too worried about breakage just pressure change during transit. I'm sure it's fine just a bit nervous for the Final Round.

wow! spendy! I looked at overnight but it was going to be like 160 bucks. should be fine. I've flown with beer in my checked luggage on several occasions with no problems.

Thanks, it's was a major spurge but I was either that or FedEx Ground which would have arrived Monday. Four days on a truck was a bit too much in the June heat.

As long as your bottles are good an sealed, the pressure won't hurt your beer. I've checked and carried on (PDX has a few bottle shops past security) loads of time without issue.

(going off on a bit of a tangent in case this helps people in the future...)

shipped in >90F weather last year, ground, took 2 days, and we managed a medal and almost two more.

also, before anyone pays for 2-day, make sure it will take longer than two days to use ground.  our packages make it from KS to Michigan, Pennsylvania, and most of the country in 2 days.  The price difference between actual "2-day" and ground that takes two days (sent Tuesday, out for delivery today) was $96 vs $25 in my case. ($48 vs $12.65 x 2 boxes)

The last time I used 2-day for anything it actually arrived in one day and then sat at FedEx for a day because "delivery not scheduled"      Lesson learned.

Thanks for the advice, if I had sent it out Tuesday or Wednesday I would have had no problem with 2 day but the only option was a Saturday delivery and I wasn't sure of the Breweries hours on Saturday.

I went with 2 day when the NHC was in San Diego. Was worried about a Pilsner going across the desert in a truck.

I split a 12 slot beer shipper box with 2 other entrants and we shipped overnight via Fedex. Luckily, I had access to a corporate FedEx account which dropped the cost of overnight from close to $200 to only $35. Seriously. Mine shipped out yesterday and arrived early this morning. Without the discount, I would have done ground.

Now if only I could ship myself to Grand Rapids for $35...

For second round I always built an insulated box like Gordon Strong described once on The Brewing Network. Basically go buy the insulated foam board and cut to fit the sides of the box. Glue it all together. Pack the box and leave it open in fridge to get everything super cold. Seal the box and ship. I did a test run shipping beer to a friend in August and it arrived still cool after two days.

That was a smart move. I judged light hybrids in San Diego, and we had some orange or even darker cream ales and kolsch's. Some of them tasted really cooked. I gave more sub 20 scores than over 30. Felt bad about it, and even wrote explanations on the back of some of my scoresheets.
