So... Would there be any negative effects to doing a cereal mash with enriched corn meal vs just 'normal' cornmeal?

I found this reference for what makes it "Enriched".

Enriched is a term used to mean that something was added (usually vitamins that were stripped out of the product through processing).

So I don't really think there is much difference in brewing.

Most steel-ground (i.e., degermed) cornmeal is going to be enriched to replace the nutrients that are stripped during processing. Since they're just replacing what has been removed, I don't see an issue. I'm pretty sure most store-bought cornmeal is going to be enriched. I haven't used either, so I can't speak from experience.

Yeah it states it has vitamins B1 and B2 added in the ingredients.  I'm going with it either way since I already bought 5lbs of it... but figured I would do a reality check just in case ;-)

Yes it's def degerminated.  I've never done a cereal mash before so it's all new to me... but I've read if it's not degerminated it can be oily and effect the head retention... so that's all I was really looking for... But then I was really only finding the enriched stuff... Figured why not on the spot at the grocery store.. lol

I bet it is next to impossible in a regular grocery store to find non-enriched corn meal.  Kinda like getting milk without  added vitamin D (to replace the vitamin D destroyed by pasteurization?).

I have used the Kroger brand degeremed enriched corn meal for years in my CAPs with good results. The store is local and the store brand price is much less than polenta. Course ground grits can be hard to work with sometimes.

I've used it with good results in saisons as well. No reason to go after more expensive products or name brands.

That will work fine. The Meijer closest to me is about 10 miles, the Kroger in the Village is <1 mile.

Well I finally got around to brewing it today... Cereal mash seems to have gone ok... when I added it back to the main mash I hit my step target ;-)... Running off into the boil kettle now...

With all those extra B vitamins going into your beer feel free to slam a few extra beers since your nervous system will be loving you already!
