Stout originally meant strong, there were Pale Stouts in the early 19th century.

This also comes to mind, about 3:14 in.

Mild stout porter should be a subcat.

Reading Ron Pattinson's latest book The Home Brewer's Guide to Brewing Vintage Beer more than re-confirmed my long held belief that creating and categorizing beer styles is just plain silly.

A draft version should be posted soon and open for comments/revisions for a while before the official version is released.

Without categorizing beers it would be an absolute nightmare to even order a beer.

Well you could have a competition... it would just be purely based on a hedonic scale.

But for ordering/purchasing every beer would need to be accompanied by a write up describing it... Or just all taste the same like BMC....
