Flaked Red Wheat vs Flaked White Wheat
« on: June 24, 2014, 12:49:06 pm »
Anyone familiar with the differences in these products?  I currently have the ability to get Flaked Red and Flaked white wheat.  According to Briess's website their red and white wheat malts have noticeable flavor differences, But i cant find anything on the Flaked versions having flavor differences.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Jeff

Gosh, there's some information about the differences in "brewing with wheat" but I can't recall right now

One difference I seem to recall is red wheat has a smaller kernel size . Guess that doesn't help with flaked.

white wheat tends to be much lower protein than red. they certainly taste different but I'm not prepared to describe the difference.

taste them and find out!

IIRC Celis used Red Winter Wheat in Celis White. That was a long time ago in a place far away.

I skimmed threw brewing with wheat, and the only reference i noted on the differences that Briess uses Red Wheat because its closer to "Raw Wheat" than the white wheat.
