Yep 002/1968 is great, but I've used WY1275 and WY1469 with good results. All good yeasts.

1968 is my go to yeast for English ales.  Love it.  Unconditionally.

I don't make many browns, though.

Another vote for 1469.  Makes killer browns.

The Brown I have tapped now was brewed with  WY1332. Not bad.

I bet that the Taylor Walker strain (NCYC 240) would make a good 11B beer.   As I mentioned in a different thread, Taylor Walker was a London Porter brewer and Southern Brown is allegedly derived from London Porter.  I have been meaning to add that strain to my bank.

I have been using Wyeast 1768 a fair amount in my English ales.  I bet it would make a pretty tasty brown ale, too.

Is that strain readily available?

No, it's only available on slant or in lyophilized form from the NCYC.  You will lose interest as soon as you see the  per culture cost.  I plan to add couple of new cultures to my bank over the winter.  I added three new cultures that I have yet to use because I do not play with yeast during the summer due to the fact that I am too darn cheap to purchase a laminar flow hood and SWMBO would make me get rid of something to make room for it.  The cultures that I added were NCYC 1108, Wallerstein Saaz #63B, and Phaff A76.

It needs to be a low attenuator. In addition, I understand that they were also back sweetened.
