Cidre noche
« on: June 25, 2014, 08:41:23 pm »
Loaded up at Safeway
Two towns ciderhouse
A cherry one and made marion,  with black berries I pressume. Both very tasty. The marion berry tasted fake a little, and the cherry was uber pie cherry. Tart but tasty. Made me wish it was a logsdon cerasus.

Crispin!
One fermented with transit yeast and maple surple. Wasn't so sure but dang me! Very tasty.
One done normal but with honey. Good but not as good.

Angry Orchard...
Coors light of cider
Glad I grabbed a six pack, cuz my palate is shot and it don't matter. Woo hoo

Ironic since Crispin is the one owned by MillerCoors

Crispin was the far better cider.

By the way, trapist not transit

It wasn't always that way, unlike Blue Moon

I don't know if you can find it on your side of the mountains Jim, but my favorites are Reverend Nat's and Finn River. Also, Tieton cider company makes some really good stuff in your neck of the woods, though I think they only do draft accounts. Maybe pick up a growler of theirs?

I'll keep an eye out. I was rather impressed with the crispin trapist maple one. Very pleasant and different flavor, though a bit sweet to pound down one after another. Tasty goodness tho

I'd head on up to the Wenatchee area and visit Snowdrift, especially whenever they release that red-fleshed apple cider again.  But yeah, Nat's Revival Dry is a great cider.  Among the trio of PT area cideries I prefer Alpenfire, but you can't go wrong with Finn River either.

Just saw Crispin's "The Saint" tonight and grabbed one. It's pretty tasty, but a bit sweet to put down in quantity. It's got a nice apple flavor, and the Trappist yeast and maple are there but balanced well as highlight notes without being overpowering. I think the Belgian esters and maple accentuate the sweetness a bit too much, too. Without the Belgian yeast and maple it might actually be dead-on at this sweetness level.

The other thing is that the carbonation is pretty low. I think if they approached this more like a Tripel (dryer and more carbonated), then I think I could put down a whole lot of this.
