For a homebrewer, you should go to White Labs' tasting room.  Try one wort fermented on multiple strains of yeast.  Huge knowledge opportunity, good beer and a great bunch of people there.

On the west side of the 15 fwy from Ballast Point (old grove).

Love this tip seanoj! Thanks so much, would not have thought of this as a stopping place, but is right on with what I need in my brewing education right now!

I enjoyed the tap room at Coronado Brewing Co in San Diego. The tap room is open to the brewery so you can kind of check that out while drinking. That also makes it a bit loud at times.

Very close to Sea World if that helps.

I have family in S.D. and they take me all over.  Unfortunately Alpine is out on it's own in the boonies. There are a few really good sections where you can hit multiple breweries in a small area.

The one where Stone is has several other good breweries in the area-belching beaver, latitude 33, booze brothers, barrel harbor, iron fist, and mother earth plus a few more.

The other is further south but still 15 minutes from downtown, it has green flash, rough draft, saint archer, alesmith, hess, white labs and ballast point and a few I forgot.

I could point out some specific ones if you are looking for something particular.

I think you hit most of what I have been discussing with significant other and sister(in LA). We(I) want to hit Stone on our way down from LA, then go further south the next day for White labs, Ballast point, and Alesmith and maybe Green Flash. Most of the others I have not heard of before or tried, so if time permits, will check them out. Thanks again!

Thanks Jon. Starting off at Wolfgang Puck's with 2 from Sun King: Osiris pale ale(awesome) and then Sunlight Cream Ale (GF and I both liked that one a lot, she was not a fan of the pale)
