Great homebrew role model
« on: July 14, 2014, 10:33:00 pm »
I listened to March 10 2014 BN Session episode with Annie Johnson, 2013 Home Brewer of the Year 2013. I just had to say, awesome lady. Her skill and experience aside, her outlook and philosophy on beer things is really a great role model. Way to go Annie! I really suggest listening to her interview.

A couple of us were hanging out with her at various events at NHC (until she got that restraining order :) ).  One of the coolest people in homebrewing for sure and very knowledgeable.

Somewhere out there is a drunken selfie of a bunch of us...

We ran a post about Annie after she earned the Homebrewer of the Year title in 2013. I caught some flack on social media for highlighting Annie's race and gender in article, but with diversity in the homebrewing community being a hot topic, I thought it was exciting to see the Homebrewer of the Year title go to an African-American (first ever) female (first since 1983).

Whatever your feelings, you can get some more insight on Annie's homebrew history if you are interested.

I'll definitely have to check out the BN podcast to hear her segment. Thanks for sharing!

Well, I wouldn't worry about that. I doubt she is. Personally I don't care what her SRM is. She's cool

She was always busy when I walked by the Pico booth.

I don't always listen to episodes of the Session where they interview brewers or breweries I'm not familiar with, but I did catch that one. It was a great interview, and (like most brewers) she seems like someone who would be cool to have a few beers with.

Personally I don't care what her SRM is. She's cool

Great quote, Jim. That should be on a T-shirt.

I talked to her a bit at the NHC and she was super friendly. Great homebrewer.
