Brewing TV!?
« on: April 19, 2010, 09:09:53 am »
What is Brewing TV?
-----

Brewing TV's mission is to cover the world of homebrewing through the magic of video. There are so many stories to be told, brews to be brewed, and people to profile … in other words, no shortage of segments and content to be shot. The homebrewing community has always been a strong one, whether it's your LHBS, a club in your city, you and some friends brewing in your kitchen on a weekend afternoon, or an online forum with rabid regulars. Brewing TV is a place where those different communities can connect and hear about what homebrewing has been, what it is, and where it is going. Brewing TV is a voice for homebrewing culture ... the "why," not the "how."

Jake, this sounds really interesting.  I hope I don't offend anyone by saying that I hope this is a bit more controlled than a lot of BN programs.  A lot of those have a level of asshattery that I just don't enjoy.  I guess that puts me firmly in the "old curmudgeon" category.

I can respect that, but don't put us to sleep either.

Asshattery is a good descriptive word. I've better things to do. Pretty much only listen to Jamil's shows these days.

I'll check out BrewingTV. Bookmarked!

I think I'm in that category, too.

They should do a story on your system, Denny. The batch sparge system that launched 1000 all grain brewers.

I for one like the asshattery, I guess I just have a more vulgar (younger, less conservative?) sense of humor.  I listen to it while I work out and laugh out loud quite a bit.  It strays from topics and can jump around a little too much in my opinion but it generally seems like a fun alcohol induced time.  Some of the episodes like the ones with Dr. Charles Bamforth contain some real nuggest of good info.  Though, I gotta say the ads and plugs go way overboard.

The other one, while informative is just a little bit too dry for me some times.

Personally I don't have much interest in video as I like to listen while I am doing other things.  I can't say I'd really like to sit around and watch too much.  It'd have to be pretty good.

This is the real problem for me too. The humor, while crude, doesn't bother me. It's just the signal:noise ratio that sometimes gets out of hand.

Or the episode where Denny explained Batch Sparging.

Like the Northern Brewer ads...one of the reasons I support Northern Brewer is their sponsorship of the BN

Can we please focus on the original post instead of a Brewing Network bashing session.

Yes..you can guess that I am a member of the BN Army.

I bet Jake will make this a little more reserved than The BN, but a little less dry than Basic Brewing Radio.

I appreciate the comments about BN "asshattery" (and lack of editing)... I wondered if it was just me. I've been pointed to shows where to get to the actual information being delivered I had to listen to the equivalent of Beavis and Butthead huh-huhing for well over an hour. I much prefer Basic Brewing, which is a very well-managed show.

Brewing TV will be less "asshatery" and more "tom foolery". ;)

For the record, I enjoy both programs mentioned here.  And, The Brewing Network is a sponsor of Brewing TV, so we're all good friends which is no secret.  They may even be contributing video content down the road.

That said, we don't want to be The Brewing Network 2.0, or Basic Brewing 2.0.  No need to reinvent the wheel.

We're also out to create something entertaining for homebrewers...so don;t expect a ton of "how to" or tips and tricks (although, we hope this sort of resource comes organically by covering the stories within homebrew culture.)  We don't want people to look to Brewing TV for technical advice, that is better served through the plethora of good books out there, and places like this website and the AHA as an organization.

So, with that in mind, we're going to do weekly episodes, about 10-15 minutes depending on how the content shapes up.  We'll also post extras, recipes, blog posts, news and other content on a weekly basis.  We are homebrewers ourselves, and we have large personalities (for better or worse), so it should strike a balance, and be something unique in the universe of homebrewing.

Hope ya'll like it, because we're breaking our backs to bring it to you...and loving every minute!

cheers
