I use this method too, with Biofine Clear.  I made a couple of pilsners in the spring that cleared out really well at a month, but prior to using the Biofine it was taking a good 6 weeks anyway.

Does fermenting it like that somehow make it more prone to chill haze, or what? I do like my lagers bright and clear, I just need to give them more time. I don't like adding things to my beer if I don't have to.

No, but just about anything will drop out given the time. And 4-8 weeks of cold lagering is plenty of time.
