I'll be there in a couple of weeks for a conference. Any suggestions on local beers to look out for? I'm planning on hitting the Schlafly tap room at least once. I've heard good things about Tallgrass, too.

I was there earlier this year.  Here's a thread about it:

Thanks, I missed that. I'm staying right by the Arch, with no car. I think the AB tour would be pretty interesting some day.

St. Louis isn't the easiest place to get around without a car, but Schlafly's Tap Room should be doable for you. Also check out Four Hands, not far from Busch Stadium.

Plan your AB trip ahead of time. They changed formats a few months ago, and I haven't been on the new one. It used to be really impressive. The new one that's free is supposed be be shorter, but they've got a longer non-free one as well. The Post has an article about the changes: http://m.stltoday.com/business/local/a-b-tweaks-free-brewery-tours-adds-day-fresh-tours/article_81df0e7c-9975-501c-9640-26251e4fa4bf.html?mobile_touch=true

Hair of the Dog on Washington has a decent beer selection, and has a bit of a dive feel to it. They are not that far from Alpha Brewing, which honestly isn't my favorite place, but it will be close to you.

If you can manage a trip out of downtown, definitely check out Perennial and Civil Life.  There's a new bottle shop in Clayton called Craft Beer Cellar that has a good selection and will break up six packs. The new Urban Chestnut location on Manchester is worth a trip. If you find yourself on LaCledes Landing, skip everything else and go to Morgan Street. They have a couple of good lagers there.

Thanks, I'll probably stick close to downtown. Nice tip on Laclede's Landing
The AB article has this tidbit
Quote
Visitors taking Anheuser-Busch’s new fee-based tour at its St. Louis brewery will leave with a bottle of beer brewed that day.

I assume they mean packaged that day and not that the they've managed to get the process down to one day in total

There is a Flying Saucer close to Busch that has 70+ taps. Easy to get to with the trolly or cab. It is really close to the rail station too.

4 Hands is a great place as mentioned before.

You can ride the metrolink to get at least close to everywhere.

Couple that with the St Louis beer map

http://stlhops.com/beer-map/

Taxi's aren't horrible either. Flying Saucer is your best bet though.

I did not make it to 4 Hands, but I did have a nice meal at the Bridge Tap House & Wine Bar. Their web site makes it look fancier than it is, I think. 50+ beers on tap and all available in 4 oz pours. I always like that option as a beer tourist. The food was very good.

Schlafy's Tap House was excellent, too. Two beers on cask and an interesting menu.
