Costco Craft Beer Selection
« on: December 14, 2014, 07:34:32 pm »
There wasn't a good forum category for this, but Costco has recently stepped up their craft beer game with pretty good deals on bombers.  I am in Kansas City and I get Boulevard seasonals at $3-4 dollars under usual liquor store prices (Costco got like 25 cases of Love Child and sold them for $14 a piece I think, I was getting them for $18 or so else where).  This past weekend they had La Folie in stock for $10.99, another great deal.  If you have a membership keep your eyes out for their new selections, or if you have a friend with a membership, have them do it for you!

I have noticed that our Costco has been improving their craft beer selection. Some local's available and Chimay Blue magnums, too. Not a great bomber selection available here yet but hopefully it catches on soon. I do heart Costco. :)

When I was in Indiana for T-Day I picked up a Goose Island sour/rare mix pack at Costco. I don't know how widespread that is, but the Costco model would make me think Midwest-ish at any rate.

(FWIW, I was kind of bummed out seeing a retailer that doesn't refrigerate get the good stuff, but damn if they weren't tasty.)

They seem to be slowly converting.  I was in St Louis in the summer and they just started carrying bombers, including Firestone Double Jack and some Stone stuff, then I came back to KC and they just started it a month or two ago.  The La Folie was a pleasant surprise.  They will never get the really rare stuff I assume, but they do carry some pretty good stuff, and at a great price.

It would be nice if they refrigerated but will never happen.  Another peeve is that their stockers will sometimes place the bottle conditioned beers upside down.

We have also had a major upgrade in beer selection in our costcos. At the two near where I live the selection was just awful. Over the summer something changed. We had Mirror Mirror just sitting there. I bought quite a bit. There's definitely good stuff in there at very reasonable prices.

Our Costco has a freaking amazing selection if beer, both local and otherwise.  For the last year, I've been buying 750s of Rodenbach Grand Cru for $7.59.  Huge selection of other great beers.

Here in Juneau (home to the smallest Costco, per the newspaper), we can get some pretty good stuff, but it can be hit or miss.  Alaskan brewery, which is literally the next parking lot over is often stocked at the store.  I was able to get several bombers that were 3 dollars cheaper then what they were selling it for at the brewery or anywhere else in town (smoked porter, Double black IPA). They seem to stick to regional breweries, I have also scored some deals on rogue brewery bombers.

La Folie for 12ish bucks. I'm jealous. Jealous that Costco has a good selection and Sam's Club is still meh.

Meh, our local Costco has regional beers (Sweetwater) and some real local beers (Intuition) otherwise, it's Samuel Adams, and BBC stuff.
