Hop Stand, sort of
« on: October 18, 2014, 01:39:44 pm »
My intention was to hop stand a couple of ounces into my 2 gallon at 170...completely forgot to do this until I was around 140. Should I just let it sit at that temp longer? Add more dry hops now vs. planned? Does it matter?

I don't think you'll notice much difference.

Yeah, I'd skip adding them that cool and take that amount of hops and add them to your dry hops.

I agree. You've lost the bitterness from the late hop at that temp. I say what the hell dry hop that baby maybe twice:)

I would have goosed the heat back up and done the hop stand. Dry hops aren't the same, especially where flavor is concerned.

No arguments there. He seemed a bit flustered, so adding them as dry seemed like the easiest solution for him. I haven't forgotten to add stand hops yet, but if I did I would probably reheat to 165F anyway.

I guess I wasn't specific enough...what I meant was that he wouldn't notice much difference between adding them at that temp vs. adding them at a higher temp.
