Barrel conditioning a Barley Wine Temp
« on: March 14, 2015, 04:23:09 pm »
Hello
I have a barley wine that I will be putting in a 53 gallon Bourbon Barrel. I am wondering what will happen it the barrel gets anywhere from 60 to 85 degrees. This would be stored in my shop and doors open. March now and will age 6 months. I see 60 is best. Thoughts please

Wow that's a lot of barley wine!  Is this a club brew or did you brew that much solo?

In a 53 gallon barrel you aren't going to see that much change in temperature due to the volume of beer. You might see movement of a few degrees during the day and then dropping back off over night. Nothing to be alarmed about.

Hello
Yes it was with guys from the brew club I am in. We have a black IPA coming out next weekend. And will be filling back up with the barley wine. I would like to leave at my shop over the summer but was thinking 90's during the day might not be good for the beer. I can move to my basement and that would be around 68 constant

If the basement with a constant temp is an option it is def preferable.
