Noticed it wasn't an option while ordering this...is it necessary to crush?

I have always crushed it, but that's because I just mix it in with my grist before milling.  Torrified wheat is made by heating wheat berries to the point where their cells explode.

I tried steeping some once. Efficiency was crazy low, and the kernels didn't look like they broke down at all. I had mistakenly assumed that they'd turn to mush once they hydrated in the hot water. Ever since that ill-fated experiment I have crushed them.
