Vanilla Flavor Loss
« on: February 09, 2015, 10:25:20 am »
I brewed a Vanilla Cream Ale, using real vanilla bean.  The beans were soaked in vodka during primary and then the beans and vodka were added to secondary.  After kegging/carbonation, for the first week or two the flavor was amazing.  Then the vanilla flavor dropped out.  Anyone ever experience this or know what may have happened?

Thanks

i recently posted on this and used vanilla beans in my porter. others have said either leave them in longer so you get a little more than you may target in flavor, or add more along the way. seems to be normal regarding loss.

I don't have experience with vanilla, but my bourbon barrel stout lost all flavor after a week of carbing

My experience as well. The flavor will fade so either leave in longer before kegging or add a bit in the keg to maintain flavor but don't go over board. If you add to keg bag them so if it gets too much you can pull them
