Looks like I'll be getting my first real taste in the next few days. Going to brew my first batch in VT in a long while sometime in the following week. just ordered ingredients. Now I just have to rebuild by brew system. Unless I can find one to borrow. We will see.

I just can't wait for it to warm up so that I can stop wearing this ridiculous hat that I'm wearing in my profile pic lol.

Yeah, I'm wussing  out as I woke up this morning with the beginnings of something. Sore throat, cough, runny nose. I'll be sitting by the fireplace instead of brewing. Will have to push the pilsner until next weekend

Good call. Plenty of beer left to be brewed.

I think the forum is contagious....I had it a week ago

Yeah, it'll be easier to kick a cold when it stays above zero for a few days.   ;)

All good now. I'm all ready with equipment, grain, etc for tomorrow morning brew of Helles bock. Not to mention I have 6 gals of Chardonnay, 6 gals of Riesling, 5.5 gals of saison to move along this weekend also.

I've brewed in the cold before but it has been way colder then the usual winter weather.
Last week end I did an all grain, partial boil, 3 gallon batch in the kitchen.
It actually worked pretty well and was easier then 5 gallons on the burner outside.
Since I have a few 3 gallon kegs I can see myself doing this more often regardless of the weather.

yeah for me really makes no difference. only time i'm outside is to throw he kettle on (back inside) look for a nice creamy froth to form, go outside and wait for boil, adjust temp to prevent boil over and in about 5 minutes back inside. just popping outside for any additions along the way. i have walk out basement that i have my burner outside the door, and the area is under cover and shielded.

Well it took three kettles of boiling water to defrost the rig, and about 10 minutes of running the inline filter under the hot tap, but I'm finally up and running. Some thing frustrating about spending a mortgage payment or two building a hard plumbed, stainless, single tier HERMS setup, that's all but useless in this weather; meanwhile the frugal Dennybrew blue cooler approach is up and running in the  kitchen immediately.  :-\

On the plus side, by the time I'm mashed in at this rate, the hot scotchies will be flowing after noon, so I won't feel like such a lush.  :D

My HERMS is for decoration in the winter weather.  I go single infusion and batch sparge to save time this time of year.  If I go larger batches I go back to fly sparging.  I ask myself frequently why I built HERMS at all.  Nasty day today, had ice last night.  I looked out at the covered rig and moved on.  I have some older lager yeast I'm making a starter on the stove. Forecast is cold next week, but highs will be in the 20's.  I can do that for sure.
