Just to confirm I'm reading these correctly...would you concur that this is 1.012?

Looks like 1.014 to me, you read the bottom of the meniscus which in technical terms is the level of the liquid at its lowest point on the hydrometer

~1.012 if your hydrometer is calibrated to the top of the meniscus; ~1.014 if to the bottom. Both exist.

I did this already but didn't pay attention to where it was calibrated to.

Tap water is fine for all practical purposes. By law (in the US), it's too close to distilled to measure a difference.
