266:  If the brew day has gone wicked smoothly and you are near the end...

You forgot something!

This time it was the Irish moss.  Again.  Last time I brewed this recipe I also forgot!

Maybe this beer is telling you it WANTS to be cloudy.   ;)

Try using a checklist and a mise en place (that is, set out everything you need in a specific order). I use a Brewsmith brew sheet printout and I place my ingredients out in small Pyrex cups in the order in which they will be used.

Oh believe me I do that also.  I start prepping about 6 days in advance usually.  Something about little munchkins running around gets me slightly distracted...  No, I can't blame them either.  The truth is, even if I were 100% prepped and on the ball I would get distracted at some point!   ::)

I took this idea one step further. Using those $2.00 kitchen timers, I set a timer for every kettle edition. Best $10.00 I ever spent.  ;D

I use the timer on the microwave, but same concept. :-) I use it for the mash, then for the boil. (Just in case I accidentally hit the wrong button and cancel the timer, I write the start time on the brewsheet.)

I put my whirfloc right in with my last hop addition when I am weighing them out.

If you have to forget something irish moss is the least of your problems....

I also forget the moss a lot.  A couple times I've actually forgotten the 0 minute hops, and those were supposed to be hoppy red ales, too!  There's so much to remember at the end of the boil, it's easy to leave stuff out.  I really do need to start doing the mise in place thing...that would really help.

See, now that is what I try and do.  It should have happened too as I had hop additions at 15 and 10 minutes either would have been fine.  It does not work when you have a beer with no finishing hops though...   :P

I even measured the hops out 2 days in advance!

Microwave timer. Whirlfloc tabs in  the 15 min hop addition.

Especially if it will pour hot wort/water into your sock/boot
