I usually grow a starter from slant, which requires very different timing.

A White Labs vial contains a ridiculous number of yeast cells compared to an original Wyeast smack pack.  It was not uncommon to smack the pack on Friday morning, pitch it into a quart or liter of starter wort that evening, and brew the following day; therefore, 24 hours is more than enough time to start a vial of White Labs yeast.  In fact, one can get away with pitching the vial the night before one intends to brew.

That sounds easy. I like it, and should definitely help make a better beer. Thanks Mark

Does anyone know if Sierra Nevada uses the same strain for their "lagers"?

Ha, it's funny how you put lagers in quotes. I never thought Sierra Nevada's lagers were very good...they are definitely an ale brewery. The vienna lager was decent that I had in the fall pack last year, but I am not a fan of the Summerfest at all; it just isn't a smooth and clean tasting lager.
And the oktoberfest had a slight roast character to it that took me by surprise.

They have a go to lager strain for their lagers. Don't know what it is.

The maibock that Sierra Nevada used to offer as their spring seasonal was very good.

that was tasty. got rockingly drunk off that one by accident at one point because I didn't read the label and knocked back a six pack in too brief an evening.

I did like the Glissade. I'm not a huge fan of the Summerfest but I can knock one or two back. I agree it is not very smooth compared to some other summer lagers out there.

+1  Miss the Glissade. That was a good one. Don't think much of Summerfest, either.  Luckily, Nooner is a pretty strong upgrade.
