Thanks for the responses...does refrigeration after carbing do anything to prevent bottle explosions?
No, but storing beer cases on the laundry dryer can be a problem.  IMUE (in my unfortunate experience [new chat term])
Many of us would be on a strict liquid diet if it weren't for pretzels.

Is there a preferred amount of time to refrigerate before drinking? I have read that 48 hours is needed, but I am wondering if that is important or can I just wait until it is cold? I'm assuming this is for proper flocculation.

I found a couple weeks in the fridge made the beer clear but I just want the beer cold.

IMO some cold conditioning is beneficial for maturation...its just a matter of how long you can wait!
