Brew Weekend 2/28
« on: February 28, 2015, 06:14:51 am »
As far as the weather goes, February was for the birds, but it was good for brewing. Who's at it this weekend? I'm brewing the 2015 addition of my Barleywine. I'm keeping the malt the same but switching the hops up a bit.
10 lb two row
10 lb Maris Otter
5.5 lb Munich
1 lb Victory

120 min boil
60 min 2 oz nugget and 1 oz Apollo
30 min 1 oz columbus and 1 oz Centennial
10 min 1.5 oz Cascade, 1 oz Cent, 1 oz Apollo, and 1 oz Equinox
0 min 1.5 oz Cascade, 1 oz Cent, 1 oz Apollo, and 1 oz Equinox

I'll be racking a session IPA and using it's yeast cake of WLP 001

Life is good!
Frank

I'm not brewing today, but I'll be dry hopping my IPA with some Ahtanum, Amarillo and Huell Melon.

I'm brewing another kumquat wheat ale (the Zymurgy recipe) for the wife. Gotta get it in before kumquats go out of season. Tomorrow is going to be the warmer day--I know you're impervious to winter temperatures, Frank, but I'm a bit of a wimp I guess--so it'll be mash in the kitchen and boil on the porch.

I don't know how you could be a wimp in Massachusetts? My god have you guys had enough snow yet? My sister lives in Peabody and its just crazy the amount of snow they have. Not sure if i will get a brew in this weekend or not as I have quite a bit of house stock right now.

Well, maybe not a complete wimp. Maybe I just don't have the right hat for the job.  ;)

No brewing this weekend, but I'll grind enough grain to brew at least a couple batches in the Zymatic this week.

No brewing for me, just finishing up propagating the yeast strains in my fridge so I can keep them going until I have space to brew again. Right now WY2000 is in the flask.

Not brewing until next weekend. My wife and I are actually getting a date night - dinner at a local German place, then going to a concert after. Probably doing an American amber next weekend.

Just brewed a Amarillo IPA last night. Snowed in here in Fort Worth (which I know is laughable compared to you northerners) so I utilized the free ice bath.

No brewing, but I kegged a ton. Made some odd mixtures in the keg that tasted pretty dang good as I tried to get the proportions right. Mixed a sour pumpkin ale with a rye porter, and a touch of oud bruin. Saison braggot got mixed with a very oaky Flanders and some oud bruin, as well as a very hoppy saison. Did a straight five gallons of oud bruin that was aged with gooseberries. Last keg was filled with a German red IPA.
