Sudden dramatic yeast activity drop off?
« on: March 14, 2015, 01:49:47 pm »
So tomorrow will be two weeks in primary. Two days ago I was getting a couple bubbles every 13-35ish seconds. Today I watched it and the loose cap thingy inside airlock barely moves at all and seems to be at about 40-60 seconds but no visible bubbles present when it does move. Is it normal to have such a sudden and dramatic drop off in activity? This is only my second time ever and didn't watch my first batch very carefully before.

That doesn't sound weird to me. Fermentation probably stopped a while ago, but bubbles are a poor indicator. CO2 continues to escape after fermentation is over because the beer gets supersaturated.

Yes. The beer is most likely all done.

Agree, take a gravity reading to confirm its reached final gravity, wait a couple days and take another. If it hasn't changed its done.
