Gelatin and Hops
« on: March 25, 2015, 04:12:18 pm »
I forgot to include Whirlfloc on my last brew and I'm considering using gelatin at this point. I do want to get a clear picture of what the beer and the dry hops will taste like and am concerned that the gelatin will take some of that away. Thoughts?

I stopped using gelatin on hoppy beers because it does strip away some dry hop character.  Do you keg? If so, you could wait until the beer has been cold for a week and see if you think you need it. I've added gelatin to carbed kegs many times.

Justin, let me suggest writing off clear beer on this one. Using or not using Wirlflock in a dry hopped APA or IPA will make only negligible difference anyway. Drink it from a red solo.

+1.  Hop haze carries a lot of hop character with it.  Haze from bad pH, process, etc., is what to avoid.

  Do you keg?
Nope.

I say carb it and let it ride.  You'll like the hop character better.

Let it ride, indeed.  Just feel free to close your eyes and enjoy the flavor.
Run then beer.
