Headed to Albuquerque, NM next week...
« on: October 08, 2015, 06:05:45 pm »
I will be in Albuquerque for a conference and I will not be with any beerheads that I know of.  I always like to drink local craft beer when I travel so does anyone have any suggestions?  I think a trip to Santa Fe at some point during the week might be scheduled as well.  Thanks gang.

From experience, Le Cumbre and Marble. There are others, and some new ones I have heard of. Il Vicino has good pizza and a fairly good IPA.

Thanks for that.  In some recent trips I have found nice craft beer environments in and around Phoenix, Charleston, SC, Bloomington, IN and Lexington, KY.  This conference is all next week and my beloved Cubs are playing in the NLDS so I'm envisioning some game-watching and local craft beer-enjoying!  Cheers.

I will be passing through ABQ on the way to Santa Fe. We will stop at Le Cumbre and buy some fresh Elevated IPA for the rest of the trip.

Bosque brewing is getting enough buzz that they would be worth a stop. GABF gold for their wet hopped beer this year.

Give us a review when you get back.

Definitely La Cumbre. Il Vicino's brewery (not the pizza place on Central) is right around the corner in the same warehouse district. Tractor has been around forever and hit-or-miss in my experience, but they have a location right downtown not too far from Marble (also hit-or-miss depending on the seasonals). Bosque wasn't doing so hot when I was in, but that was right after they opened.

Oh, so you're free after Monday. ;D

Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.

Bosque got a Brewer with some experience in early 2014, have won some medals since then.

Passing through ABQ on the way to Santa Fe I will just have time for a stop at Le Cumbre to stock up.

Le Cumbre is on my radar.  I'll be there in about 20 hours.  Thanks again guys.

I checked out the Le Cumbre site and they look like a great brewery.  I sent an email to them checking in to see if I could take a brewery tour while I was there.  I have no idea how close they are to my hotel but this could be fun if they are receptive to a tour.  Cheers.

Just saw a place on Diners drive ins and dives called Nexus, the beer looked great and food looked amazing, southern food with a southwestern twist, had me salivating!

Update:  Well, my trip was pretty nice but I have to admit that I had no idea that the hosts of the conference would keep us as busy as they did.  I rarely left the hotel which is really discouraging.  I did have a couple of locally-made IPAs and I also had the Marble Red a couple of times and it was very nice.  I was actually at dinner with a guy from the conference who was from Germany and he followed my lead and got the Marble Red.  He said it was nice but then said to me (after we had discussed that I brewed beer) something like, "this beer is flavored with someting, yes?" and I laughed and said, "Hops?".  He laughed, took a sip and said, "I don't know... I taste someting different".  The bar in the hotel had Sam Adams Oktoberfest so I did have a number of those and my German friend said that it was NOT "Oktoberfest".  Anyway, the guys at LaCumbre actually emailed me back and said they would try to give me a tour of the brewery if they had someone available but I had to respond by telling them that my free time was practically zero.  Oh well, another time I suppose.  Thanks gang.
