Grain Storage Temp.
« on: March 24, 2015, 05:05:55 pm »
I am storing 2-row in these things...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002DJOOI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

which I really like. They are in my garage, which in Florida gets really freaking hot during the summer. Is this an issue for short or longer term grain storage?

Cool and dry is the preferred storage environment. If you have space, store indoors.

I store grain in hot or cold warehouse conditions depending on the seasons. So does almost every brewery I know. I highly doubt North Country Malts, Cargill or BSG do anything different.

majorvices is probably right, you don't need to worry about it.
However, if I was in FL and wanted to worry about grain storage and freshness, I would be more concerned about humidity and O2.  Those containers are airtight.  You could flood them with CO2 (compressed CO2 should be very dry) for long term storage.

Many of us would be on a strict liquid diet if it weren't for pretzels.

Well I have both dedicated for 2 row which if full would be 100 pounds. I'm using around 7-10 pounds pre brew so I can't imagine I would be sitting on it for more than a year. I may just keep 50 pounds in one going forward.

moisture and heat would be bad....you might have some pure alcohol in the bottom of the bin!

Probably a wise idea, at least during the heat of the summer.  50 pounds are much easier to go through than 100.
