Star-San instructions?
« on: April 03, 2015, 04:38:33 pm »
I read the instructions for Star-San and it says it needs to air -dry before using the sanitized object.

Will it stain a linoleum floor if some of it drips during the process?

Must you then sanitize with it the day before brewing to make sure it has time to dry?

Comments please!?

The contact time is very short, I don't air dry.

Linoleum, I don't know.

You are good to go with a contact time of a  minute or less.

Thanks Much!  In view of your info, I'll just sanitize my fermenter immediately before transferring the wort to it.

+1 to hopfenundmalz.  Starsan's unofficial/official slogan is  "Don't fear the foam". I've never let it dry - you don't need to. Mix it by the instructions and you don't need to fear the foam. Scout's honor.

Full strength will stain just about anything, working strength is not much worse than soda or juice.

+1 to HoosierBrew's +1  ;D I also usually leave the foam and sometimes a bit of liquid myself. I remember hearing an interview with a rep from Five Star Chem talking about as long as the pH isn't affected, its still safe to use!

I don't know for sure about linoleum but it will definitely stain the coating on formica countertops. I would assume the same will hold true for linoleum.
