Dried Orange blossoms
« on: May 24, 2010, 09:24:44 am »
Hi everyone, this is my first post.  I am trying to find dried orange blossoms.  I have checked asian markets and herbal remedy stores.  I have searched on line and have come up with nothing.  Does anyone know where to get dried orange blossoms?

This is something I came across a while back.... he uses the blossoms: http://www.buckbeanbeer.com/
maybe email him to find some more info... what else I found was a review of his beer: http://www.thebarleyblog.com/2009/buckbean-original-orange-blossom-ale/

the beer is brewed with orange blossom water (distilled water that contains the essential oils of the orange blossom).
Maybe what you need to search on is the essential oil instead of the flowers themselves? Good luck.

Thanks EHall.  I actually need the dried flowers.  This isn't ever for beer.  I have a barbeque rub recipe that calls for dried orange blossoms.  I've searched high and lo and actually found a homebrew supply store in the UK that sells them but I'm not sure that the postage is worth it.  The brewmaster at Flossmoor Station offered me some Orange blossom water but I need it dry.

What flavor are you trying to get? I've never tasted one but I can't imagine the flavor being strong or anything other than what they smell like... not sure how that will come thru in a BBQ rub... If you're looking for an orange flavor in your rub, I would suggest orange zest, you'll definately get it that way.

Quick google search found this: http://www.thebrewmart.com/orange-blossom-i602199.html - of course it is UK. But there appeared to be other places on the web as well.

Thanks again.  I did find this place and the price seems reasonable but the store warned me that the shipping would be expensive.  I am trying to make some called Sonoran Seasoning.  There is a guy in Tucson who sells the seaoning for about $5 a bottle.  Being a homebrewer though, I always like to try to make it myself if I can.  I just have to cost it out and see if it's worth it to make it or just order it already made.
