Learning all the time....
« on: May 02, 2015, 08:26:28 pm »
Ive done a few extract kits with OK results.

Doing a partial mash tonight.  Batch sparged my grain bill.  Started the boil....tossed in 60min hop addition......ohhhhhh. So that's what a boil over is!!

Hadn't seen that before!

If you're like me, it will happen at least twice more before you learn to use Fermcap or greater vigilance.

Just don't let your dog get into the spent hops.  Toxic for canines.

Yup, and not in the poor dog feels bad sense, dogs die from it.. thought it was crazy when I first heard it so I asked google and confirmed it. Only spent hops though.

No, it will happen even with unused hops.  But dogs generally aren't interested in eating hops until they're soaked with wort.

Or if you're like me you'll never learn and have an embarrassing number of boil overs.

What's the old saying? "A watched pot never boils"? Well, a watched pot never boils over either!
