Pantry Pale Ale
« on: April 21, 2015, 02:43:52 pm »
So at the end of the week I usually make a dinner I call pantry pasta, I'll take leftovers and any odds and ends left in the pantry and make up a pasta dish, it's a good way to experiment a little and use up my leftovers at the same time. Well I thought I'd try the same thing with my beer ingredients I had sitting around.
So here it is, Pantry Pale Ale, 5 gallon batch
75% US Pale Ale
20% Munich (pale)
5% Wheat
.25 oz Chinook @ 45 min
.25 oz Simcoe  @ 45min
.5   oz Columbus @ 0min
Dry hop with 1 oz ea of Amarillo and Willamette for about 5 days (or to taste, I dry hop in the keg and pull it when I like the flavor)
Probably gonna use good old WLP 001 or 090 for yeast.
That should just about use up all my beer leftovers...
Thoughts? Anyone see any glaring incongruities? Something you think just won't work together?

Looks good to me. What gravity are you shooting for?

Around 1.052-1.054. Just an easy drinking summer beer.

I love a good 'leftovers beer' ! I brewed an IPA last year using a bunch of malt and hops that needed to be used. It was great - came out like sort of an Arrogant Bastard with a big fruity hop profile. Went fast.

As for yours, I've never used Amarillo with Willamette but I'm sure it'll be good. Looks tasty.

I've used both. I suspect the Willamette will get buried, but it might sneak a little lemon into the background. Help a little with complexity maybe.

So I ended up with White Labs WLP 005 British Ale yeast. Thinking it'll help balance the hops.

Not bad
I'm sure it will be very good

But I personnaly go with this ratio when I brew Pale Ale or IPA

60-70% 2 Row
20-30% Wheat
3% Crystal 60
7-10% Sugar (Corn sugar or other)

Granby (Qc)

I'll try that next time. This was really just to use up some ingredients I had laying around. Just needed to buy the yeast is all.
