How to tell the difference between keg couplers?
« on: May 01, 2015, 10:13:55 am »
Hello, I recently got a pack of 5 couplers at an auction... I just have no clue how to tell what kinda of couplers I have on hand. They appear to be older micromatic couplers. I have gone to the website and they do have an identification chart, however, I don't know enough to get by and the markings are not that helpful(unless I am just stupid... also a possiblity)

I think I have two "A"'s because of the sliders on them and one sanke. There rest are mysteries to me.

Can you post pictures of what you have?  That might be the most helpful to all the folks here.

Where the heck are we going?  And what's with this hand basket?

You can't tell from the top.  The only one in that photo you can tell anything from is the blue one at the bottom which looks like a standard "D" coupler.

Is this the site you looked at: http://www.micromatic.com/draft-keg-beer/keg-taps-couplers-cid-801.html

EDIT: Doesn't help at the moment, but I have S and D couplers at home.  If you can't figure it out, I can post photos tonight or later this weekend.

yup. that is exactly what I used. It doesn't give what the coupler is supposed to look like, only the keg valves.

I tried to compare physical differences. Like I have two of the "slider" kind, so those are probably A or M. The other two looks like they have a metal skirt covering the actual connector. It maybe the G?

I believe you are correct about the blue one being a D(american sankey),

The bodies of the couplers can vary.  The valve is the most distinguishing part.

For example, of the Ds that I have at least one is a "low profile" and looks nothing like the others.

You could try taking them to a liquor store, too.  Those guys should know.  Or a bar.

Fair point, I will probably do that, as well as get a couple of other things checked at the local homebrew.

however, When looking.. it seems like few to no couplers have the open skirty thing than the A or M coupler(That is apparently why they are called "sliders"?)

I also didn't see any other taps with a skirty? bell-like covering over the actual connection. so, it maybe G.|

That gives me something to work off of.

Some of the couplers have a product gallery that shows the underside.
Here is an example of one with the product gallery tab.

Hope this helps.

You are correct.  If it's a slider, it's gotta be one of those two.

If it's got a skirt, it should be a G.

Looks like a pretty nice haul.
