NHC Carpool/Cab Share?
« on: May 19, 2015, 11:50:04 am »
I'm coming down for my first NHC! The only way I could afford it is staying with family. They live in Chula Vista about 20 miles South of the conference. I can rent a car and just miss out on a TON of amazing beer, take a bus (I checked, it would be 3-4 transfers and take over 2 hours each way, so NO), OR, share a cab with some other attendees so it's affordable. Any takers/other ideas?

I think you're in for some slim pickings finding someone that lives near enough to your family to car pool with... Have you checked out Uber?  That's how I'm planning to get around most of the time.  You can get a fare estimate from here: https://www.uber.com/cities/san-diego

Shameless plug but you can use my link here to sign up if you don't have an account... It gives you $20 off your first ride... and me $10 off my next ride :D

I live in the sticks, where there's virtually no public transportation. So the Uber concept is mind blowing. I do need to get around in SD (Stone Bistro). Has everyone had a positive experience with Uber?
Well...I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer

I've used Uber in San Diego and Tampa and have only had one minorly negative experience (ride was more expensive than it should have been since the driver heard Coronado when both I said, and the map directions were pointing to Toronado).  I plan to use Uber again as much as needed (definitely making a Wednesday morning run to Bottlecraft in North Park).

If you decide to sign up, use this link and we'll both get a $20 credit.

There are also other Stone locations around San Diego, on taproom near Petco Park. The Liberty Station one is also a Stone Bistro, and would be closer if time and money are a consideration, as it is near the airport.

OK, I thought maybe you wanted to visit the home office, which is a ways.

Great place.  It's also where the experimental stuff is done, so there's usually a pretty good chance of several test or experimental brews being on tap at the garden bar.

most my experiences have been great with uber.  I've always had nicer cars using uber than a taxi.  It's been cheaper than a taxi as well...

I've used it a handful of times in Denver, where the roads are bottomless pits from which my undercarriage would not escape. All good experiences.

Looks like it's going to take all my willpower to sample only a few before I hit the afternoon seminars.
