Golden Black Stout
« on: May 08, 2015, 08:43:22 pm »
Hey guys I know its summer time but I was having a few Oatmeal stouts I made a while back using a 1 Gallon kit from Brooklyn Brew Shop and decided to try a go at a Stout recipe. I wanted something a little sweet that packed a chocolate roasted punch with a dry creamy feel. Let me know what you think.

-7.5lbs Simpsons Golden Promise
-1lb. Chocolate Malt(338)
-.5lb. Crystal 80
-.2lb. Black Barley
-.1lb Flaked Barley
- .5oz Nugget hops 60min.
-WLP004

OG:1.048
FG:1.014
ABV:4.4%
IBU: 23.8
SRM: 49
EFF: 70%
A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

maybe add a little roasted barley and oats/flaked oats or do you not want an oatmeal stout?

Not really sure what I'm looking for actually haha. Some where between a dry stout and an oatmeal Stout, the black barely for the dryness and the flaked barely for the creaminess. I think the chocolate should give me enough deep roasty/chocolate taste.

Any beer with over 10% dark roasted malt worries me a bit but that's just me. Personally, I would cut down the chocolate malt and increase the flaked barley.

That looks much better according to my tastes. If you want a nice smooth mouthfeel, don't be afraid to push the flaked barley up around 10% or swap out for flaked oats.
